One of the most important factors with a home business is staying organized. It’s kind of like keeping your room cleaned. It’s a daunting task that requires a little work everyday. The benefits however can last a life time.
How often do you go to a web page that demands a user name and password to login? Of course your normal user name and password won’t work, and you have no clue what it might be. You look around the desk to see if it might magically be available.
You know you must have it written it down somewhere, but you aren’t sure where to start looking. You waste 15 minutes or so opening drawers and checking files, but the info. is nowhere to be found. You concede.
You determine that now you have to create a new account at this site because you don’t want to call and talk to some customer service rep. from India. Everything goes smoothly until you get that email that says to allow 48 hours for your new account to be verified. The swimming pool outside starts to look like a great place to throw your computer into.
This has happened to myself countless times over the years and I have found a great solution. Like anything, old habits die hard. Now, if you can get into the swing of things just a few days in a row, there is a chance you can form a good habit.
What I did was create a word file and I named it “Logins”. I keep this file on the desktop of my computer so I can always find it. I actually put it in the top right corner of my computer screen.
Because I appreciate this file so much, I will email it to myself once in awhile. This creates a backup in case I ever lose the original. You would be surprised how much time this will save you in the near future.
Now whenever I open an account or have to create a login ID, I cut and paste this information into my “Logins” file. I have several home businesses and this method probably saves me over 40 hours a year. I put all kinds of other information in there too.
A lot of the passwords and logins are the same, but this really is useful for those rogue logins that are forced on you. Everyone says you should have a different user and pass for each account, but I am not exactly storing top security information for most of these sites.
It always seems like the sites I use most will give me a login that I can’t pick. When you have twenty or thirty different login names with Case sensitive letters and numbers, it becomes very difficult to memorize all of them.
And of course the sites I use most are usually the ones with strange login ID’s. It becomes very difficult to remember all of them. That is why putting them all in one place that you can easily find is worth its weight in gold.
